Have you ever thought about what goes into making safe drinking water available for your use 24 hours a day?
Capital Region Water currently offers tours at our Dr. Robert E. Young Water Services Center located at 100 Pine Drive in Harrisburg. The tour includes an overview of Capital Region Water’s drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater systems and a step by step tour of the drinking water treatment process. Tours are available to anyone 10 years or older.
Dr. Robert E. Young Water Services Center
Built in 1992, the Dr. Robert E. Young Water Services Center (WSC) remains one of the region’s premier water treatment plants. The Water Services Center produces over 8 million gallons of safe drinking water every day and is permitted to treat up to 20 million gallons a day. This plant is in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to ensure the highest quality drinking water for 20,000 homes, churches, schools, business, and government institutions.
Tours last between 30 minutes and 1 hour and are given by Community Outreach staff or plant Operators depending on availability and group interests. Tours are given between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday.
Anyone over the age of 18 will need to show a valid form of photo identification. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult with a valid form of photo identification. All participants must sign a release of liability form before the tour begins.
Tour participants must wear closed toe shoes. No sandals are permitted.
