Capital Region Water regularly monitors and tests water quality from our primary source to your tap to ensure the quality of our drinking water. In the unlikely event that your drinking water is compromised due to a water main break or other disturbance to the system, Capital Region Water will issue a boil water advisory. A Boil Water Advisory means that your water could possibly be contaminated, and you should boil tap water or use bottled water. Capital Region Water will provide notice once tests confirm that water meets all EPA requirements for public drinking water and is safe to drink without boiling.

I received a Boil Water Advisory.
What should I do?

Do not drink tap water without boiling it first

  1. Fill a pot with water.
  2. Heat the water until bubbles come quickly from the bottom of the pot to the top.
  3. Keep the water boiling for one full minute.
  4. Turn off the heat source and let the water cool.
  5. Pour water into a clean, sanitized container with a cover for storage

Use boiled or bottled water

Until further notice, you should use boiled or bottled water for:

  • Drinking
  • Making ice
  • Washing dishes
  • Brushing teeth
  • Food preparation

See our Boil Water Advisory FAQs for more details.

Continue using boiled or bottled water until corrective actions have been taken

We will inform you when all corrective actions have been completed and when you no longer need to boil your water.
