2018 – 2019 Timber Harvest

By | December 6, 2018

Capital Region Water is committed to protecting water quality through sustainable forest management. In 2016, Capital Region Water adopted a revised Forest Management Plan for the DeHart Property and recorded a conservation easement permanently limiting land use and formally acknowledging a commitment to responsible forest stewardship. Today, the approximately 8,000 acres that encompass the DeHart Property are Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) certified (FSC® RA-FM/COC-000238). This third party certification ensures that the health of a future forest isn’t compromised for today’s needs.

Project Summary:
In accordance with the Forest Management Plan, a regeneration harvest on approximately 120 acres will improve forest health. Harvest of overstory trees will improve the regeneration of understory poplar, oak, and pitch pine. A fully stocked seedling stand will result. Residual standing trees will be left for wildlife and diversity.

This management unit is located northeast of the DeHart Reservoir on the north side of Rt. 325. If traveling on Rt. 325, harvest activity may be observed. To ensure safety, please refrain from entering this area.
